NUMMUS

Nummus is the book described in Deus Ex Machina 2049 above as having been the foundation for Fiore de Concini’s invention of conscious machines. In the alternative timeline of Earth’s 2015, this led the World into Contact with the Iskurahi and, through them the Torsyne. It’s actually hard to see how that happened, since Nummus is a somewhat cranky work by an equally cranky Laslo Godel.

Where it all began – in 1980. The initials form the name of this site – TTTM. Since destop publishing programs cost the equivalent in today’s money of $10,000, and computers to run them on about the same, this book is hand-lettered, and hand drawn on paper using regular drawing instruments. I’m not sure Corel Draw even existed back then; if it had been it probably would have cost $10.000 too. But this book certainly isn’t going to cost you $10.000.

TTTM ADVERT 1994

An Advertisement for Deus Ex Machina on floppy disk (3.5”).  I was using an Amiga computer at the time, with online capabilities limited to a serial-port dial-up modem that could only connect to bulletin boards. Not a realistic option for distributing one’s work since they had very few subscribers. Then there was the advertising; no use writing books if no-one knows about them. I don’t recall how I got this advertisement out there, unfortunately.

The book ‘Tu’ it mentions was eventually rewritten and became ‘Reality v 1.00’.
